Different Kinds of Faith in the Bible

Some scholars and writers have listed more kinds of faith, but I listed only 5. I also added some bible verses as reference. All kinds of faith are a gift from God and must be apply.

1. Saving Faith
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV)
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

A faith that caused a person to be born-again(not a religion) in the spirit and be part of God's family of believers.

2. Active Faith
James 2:18
But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without [a]your works, and I will show you my faith by [b]my works.

If a person is genuinely saved, the saving faith will manifest in obedience to God's word and righteousness dependent in God's grace.

3. Temporary Faith
Luke 8:13
13 But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of [a]temptation fall away.

A faith that is not enduring, and not rooted in the grace of God.
When temptation and hardship comes this kind of faith will not last.

4. Little Faith
Matthew 8:26
26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.

Matthew 14:31
31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Doubt hinders faith, and hinders the work of the Lord. This faith can be exercise to make it grow.

5. Strong Faith
Mark 11:23
23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

A kind of faith that is constantly being practiced and seasoned with the grace of God to do great and mighty things for the Lord.
